So you have lost your car key, but its ok you have a spare! Have you ever thought about what might happen if the key that you lost fell into the wrong hands?
This is something that often gets overlooked but we have heard of situations where 6 months down the line a car has been stolen with that original key that you lost.
This is something that we can help with. As you can see in the picture below, originally this car had two keys stored in the it’s ECU (Electronic Control Unit).
The customer had phoned us and was worried that her car may be stolen off her drive with the key that she had lost. What we do is delete out any existing keys from the ECU, so they will be able to open the vehicle, but they wont be able to start it. This is a great precaution to take until we order the new lockset in, and change the locks.
The picture below shows that the ECU now only recognizes the one key that the customer has, so if anyone did manage to find her old key, she can be rest assured that no one will be able to take her car away.
